The evolution of Virtual Tours and 360° images

“No longer just for nosey parkers, but for helping the emergency services too!”

360° virtual tours have changed the way we perceive the world forever.  From museums to student campuses and from estate agents to local retail businesses, 360 degree virtual tours are becoming the must-have content strategy for gaining a greater insight into places all around the world.

Now every street has a visual representation online that is easily accessible through our smartphones and 360° virtual tours have become a new lifestyle with Google Street View.  This has become widely accepted and used by everyone.  From van drivers, to nosey neighbours, restaurant visits to outlet stores they are being used routinely.

Recently we worked on a project which aims to help break down barriers and improve confidence within communities that have previously had negative experiences with their own police services.  We were asked to produce a virtual tour of a Police Station and associated Custody Centre to help explain the environment they would be in if they either reported a crime or possibly were arrested and detained for an alleged offence.

Our photographers are able to capture real-life imagery and use advanced technology to bring those images to life. Captivating video tours and placing real-life scenarios into a virtual space have become the new normal.

Crime Scene 360° Images

360° images are used on a regular basis for criminal cases where witnesses and offenders have been involved.  The images put things into perspective in relation to where people were standing or objectives used and people seen.

Here is an example of where a 360° image is more impactful than a still image –

The Still Image

Can you guess what is behind the photographer?  It would be VERY difficult to show both sides of this area in one still shot.  Place your cursor on this virtual tour and spin round behind… Was that what you were expecting?

Over the years we’ve worked on a number of cases for Crown Court prosecutions, where the 360° images were shot by their Force CSI’s and we produced the final output files for Court purposes.   This helped the jury have a better understanding of the crime scene, of where people stood and what actions occurred at the crime scene.  The team at Seaside Creative have extensive experience of working with the criminal justice system, following the chain of evidence and security.
